The President of the Board of Directors for Friends of the Capitol Park Museum, Robyn Vie-Carpenter-Brisco, has announced Chenese Lewis as the inaugural recipient of the prestigious President’s Award for Board Member Excellence. The award was created to annually recognize the exemplary service of a selected board member.

“As the Friends for Capitol Park Museum, we are called to support the educational goals of the museum by raising funds and community awareness.” Vie-Carpenter-Brisco said. “This year with the arrival of the Smithsonian Negro Motorist Green Book Exhibition we were tasked with a large fundraising goal as well as increased community outreach initiatives in support of the programs and events surrounding the exhibition. This offered the unique opportunity to share this incredible institution with new community members that had yet to discover it.”

Lewis serves on the Board of Directors as the Marketing and Communications Committee Chair. Some of her accomplishments as a board member include raising $16,000 for the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service’s (SITES) exhibition “The Negro Motorist Green Book” to be on display at the Capitol Park Museum in Baton Rouge. She helped foster collaborative partnerships with community organizations and served as a guest speaker for various programs.

“Working with Ms. Lewis over the past year has been a true pleasure. Her passion and talent have been a great addition to the board, and I am sincerely grateful for her support.” Vie-Carpenter-Brisco said

Louisiana State Museum Division Director, Rodneyna Hart and Vie-Carpenter-Brisco presented the award to Lewis during the opening reception for “The Yellow Book: Old South Baton Rouge” exhibition.

“It is such an honor to be the inaugural recipient of the President’s Award for Board Member Excellence,” Lewis said. “It is my pleasure to work alongside individuals who each bring a unique perspective on the museum’s potential to impact our city in positive ways. “
